Real, New, and Building Something Legit

There is something I want to be completely honest about from the beginning: I do not have years and years of tattooing experience.

I am still learning. I am still practicing. I am still growing.

I am not going to pretend that I have been tattooing for ten years when I haven't. I am not going to give myself titles that I haven't earned yet. I would rather be upfront about where I am today and let people watch me become better over time.

That honesty is important to me.

But being new to tattooing does not mean that Velvet Grave Tattoo Studio is fake, thrown together, or something I do without taking seriously.

This Is a Real Business

I have put real work into building Velvet Grave as an actual business.

I have worked on the legal paperwork, business registration, insurance, safety procedures, client forms, recordkeeping, infection-control procedures, training, business planning, policies, marketing, and everything else that goes on behind the scenes.

The part people see might be a tattoo, a TikTok video, a business card, or a hoodie.

The part they don't see is the binder full of paperwork. 😂

And there is a LOT of paperwork.

I wanted Velvet Grave to have an identity of its own. That means having professional logos, business cards, branded merchandise, a website, booking options, policies, advertising, and a consistent look that people can recognize.

Those things don't magically give me years of tattooing experience, and I'm not pretending they do.

They show that I am serious about the business I am building.

I Am Not Trying to Fool Anyone

I think one of the worst things someone can do when starting out is pretend to be further along than they really are.

I'm new.

There. I said it.

I don't have a decade-long portfolio.

I don't have hundreds of tattoos behind me.

I am still developing my technique and figuring out what kind of tattooist I want to become.

And I'm okay with saying that.

Every experienced tattooist was inexperienced once. Nobody wakes up one morning with ten years of experience already downloaded into their brain.

Experience comes from time, education, practice, repetition, mistakes, improvement, and continuing to show up.

That is exactly what I intend to do.

What I Can Promise

I can't promise decades of experience.

What I can promise is honesty.

I can promise that I care about cleanliness and safety.

I can promise that I will continue learning.

I can promise that I will take every client seriously.

I can promise that I will never intentionally misrepresent my experience.

I can promise that I am putting the work into making Velvet Grave an organized, responsible, legitimate business instead of treating tattooing like a random weekend hobby.

If there is something I don't know, I would rather say "I don't know yet" and learn than pretend I do.

That is the kind of business owner I want to be.

The Branding Is Real Because the Dream Is Real

I love seeing the Velvet Grave name on logos, shirts, hoodies, business cards, signs, packaging, and everything else I have created for the business.

Some people might look at all that branding and assume it means I am trying to appear bigger or more experienced than I am.

It isn't about that.

It is about building something.

I wanted this business to have a real identity from day one instead of waiting until some imaginary moment when I suddenly felt "experienced enough" to take myself seriously.

The logo is real.

The merchandise is real.

The website is real.

The paperwork is real.

The business is real.

And the work I am putting into becoming better at tattooing is real too.

One day I hope I can say that I have years of experience.

But when that day comes, I want to be able to look back at these early days and remember exactly where everything started.

Not polished.

Not perfect.

Not pretending.

Just determined.

Velvet Grave is being built one design, one client, one lesson, one improvement, and one tattoo at a time.
